Art I Acrylic Photorealistic Paintings-The Art I students study American Photorealism through the eyes of artists like Richard Estes, Duane Hanson, and Audrey Flack. Each student selects a photo of a landscape. They learn enlargement techniques and acrylic painting techniques.They then create their own photorealistic paintings from the selected photo. The objective is to create a painting as close to the photo as possible. Here are some examples of their work.
Art I Creates Identity Boxes After Studying Joseph Cornell - Art I students study Joseph Cornell to create Identity boxes about themselves, a family member , or a celebrity. They bring from home the photos of the person who is to be the subject of this 3-D creation. The boxes are designed to tell the story of the person's life through iconography.
Posters The art I classes studied the history of poster making and came up with their own design for a poster covering an artist from the early days of poster making as if they were having an exhibition in the city of their birth. they use tempera to create these large posters documenting the work of a self-selected artist.
Art I students study the works of American Pop Artists such as Wayne Thiebaud, Andy Warhol, and RoyLichstenstein. They study Popular American Culture and create prisma color drawings of American Food and American Autos- two stalwarts of American life.
